Who did that great website? Brochure? Promotion? Display? Logo?

James Did It!

small business solutions.

James Did It! is equipped to handle the needs of your emerging business — whether you’re a brand new start up, or you’ve been around for years. From complete branding packages to e-commerce web sites, we will tailor solutions that fit your needs and your budget.

Step Zero: What is branding, and why do I need it?

Branding is your business’s identity. More than a logo, it is the entire visual language for your business. Decisions made during the banding process will influence advertising, collateral materials, websites and even your store or office’s physical environment.

That’s why it’s important to invest the a lot of your time and energy into brand development at the beginning, and you’ll see the results for the life of your business.

So don’t worry about the logo. We’ll come up with a great one, but first we have to do our homework…

Step One: Know Your Audience

Before any design is done — before we even determine exactly what solutions you need — we have know your audience. At James Did It!, we start by defining that one ideal customer. Who is he? Where does she shop? What color did he paint his apartment (or did he leave the walls white)? We really need to get into the brain of that archetypal customer and understand what turns them on?

Is she a woman who reads Architectural Digest and collects antique books? Or a does she buy her clothes at Target, dream of shopping at Prada and wind up splurging at Bannana?

Once we understand her clearly, we can begin building your identity solution.

Step Two: To the Drawing Board!

Once we know your target market inside and out, we can easily design for them! This is the really where it gets fun!

Step one back there probably took a few weeks. Now, we are on the fasttrack. You will be presented with anywhere from one to three sketches for logos, as well as color ideas. Sometimes these sketches are electronic, but they’re usually old fashioned pen-and-paper. Why? Because your company’s identity isn’t about fancy computer tricks. It’s about making sure the user (from step one) instantly connects with and “gets” your business!

Step Three: Back to the Drawing Board!

Once you’ve seen some samples, you’ll no doubt have some changes. We’re good, but most of our clients usually have a few tweaks. We make those until you’re totally satisfied with this rougher version.

We will do up to three rounds of revisions to be sure that you’re thrilled!

Step Four: The Finished Product

So what do you get at the end of the branding process? A lot!

You get a CD or DVD with your logo in various sizes, as well as designs for your business card and letterhead.

It will also include a PDF file that describes, in depth, your color palette and ideas for extending your identity beyond the obvious. What if you decide to open a new office? Obviously, it should still appeal to your core user. Imagine handing the contractor your color scheme and materials list before construction begins! The time and money saved will be immeasurable. And you’ll know that when your clients come to the office, they’ll feel a synergy that reinforces your brand image at every turn.

No doubt you’ve looked at some of those online logo services, and you’ve been impressed with some of their designs. The problem is, most of those sites don’t invest the time in your business from the beginning. Sure, you fill out a form describing your needs, but unless they really understand your business, your vision and your market, how can they possibly design the right identity for you?

The short answer is: They can’t!

Maybe they get lucky sometimes, and — if you’re lucky, then maybe yours will be one of the pretty logos they show on their site. But it seems unlikely.
